সমুদ্র


১
হে সমুদ্র, স্তব্ধচিত্তে শুনেছিনু গর্জন তোমার
রাত্রিবেলা; মনে হল গাঢ় নীল নিঃসীম নিদ্রার
স্বপ্ন ওঠে কেঁদে কেঁদে। নাই, নাই তোমার সান্ত্বনা;
যুগ যুগান্তর ধরি নিরন্তর সৃষ্টির যন্ত্রণা
তোমার রহস্য-গর্ভে ছিন্ন করি কৃষ্ণ আবরণ
প্রকাশ সন্ধান করে। কত মহাদ্বীপ মহাবন
এ তরল রঙ্গশালে রূপে প্রাণে কত নৃত্যে গানে
দেখা দিয়ে কিছুকাল, ডুবে গেছে নেপথ্যের পানে
নিঃশব্দ গভীরে। হারানো সে চিহ্নহারা যুগগুলি
মূর্তিহীন ব্যর্থতায় নিত্য অন্ধ আন্দোলন তুলি
হানিছে তরঙ্গ তব। সব রূপ সব নৃত্য তার
ফেনিল তোমার নীলে বিলীন দুলিছে একাকার।
স্থলে তুমি নানা গান উৎক্ষেপে করেছ আবর্জন,
জলে তব এক গান— অব্যক্তের অস্থির গর্জন।

1.
Oh ocean, I heard your roaring sound
in a silent night; as if a dream of endless
deep blue sleep is crying.
There is no consolation with a pain
of continuous creation.
The dark covering searches for an
exposure inside your mysterious hole.
In your fluid-like theater many large
islands and forests performed so many
songs and dance items for some time
and then vanished in the green room
with a deep silence.
Those lost design-less ages are
attacking your waves with blind agitation
periodically as if in a formless despair.
All of its forms and dances are oscillating
in your frothy blue.
You have piled up trashes of various songs,
and a different song vibrates in your body--
with restless loud words, unspoken.

হে সমুদ্র, একা আমি মধ্যরাতে নিদ্রাহীন চোখে
কল্লোলমরুর মধ্যে দাঁড়াইয়া স্তব্ধ ঊর্ধ্বলোকে
চাহিলাম; শুনিলাম নক্ষত্রের রন্ধ্রে রন্ধ্রে বাজে
আকাশের বিপুল ক্রন্দন; দেখিলাম শূন্যমাঝে
আঁধারের আলোকব্যগ্রতা। কত শত মন্বন্তরে
কত জ্যোতির্লোক গূঢ় বহ্নিময় বেদনার ভরে
অস্ফুটের আচ্ছাদন দীর্ণ করি তীক্ষ্ণ রশ্মিঘাতে
কালের বক্ষের মাঝে পেল স্থান প্রোজ্বল প্রভাতে
প্রকাশ-উৎসব-দিনে। যুগসন্ধ্যা কবে এল তার,
ডুবে গেল অলক্ষ্যে অতলে। রূপনিঃস্ব হাহাকার
অদৃশ্য বুভুক্ষু ভিক্ষু ফিরিছে বিশ্বের তীরে তীরে,
ধুলায় ধুলায় তার আঘাত লাগিছে ফিরে ফিরে।
ছিল যা প্রদীপ্তরূপে নানা ছন্দে বিচিত্র চঞ্চল
আজ অন্ধ তরঙ্গের কম্পনে হানিছে শূন্যতল।


2.
O Ocean, in the middle of a sleepless
night I stood up in your wavy dessert
and looked up at the silent sky.
I heard a loud wailing from every pours
of the srars as well as the illuminating
excitement of the darkness.
So many illuminated abodes found
their homes in the bosom of time in
a bright morning, a day of celebration,
by tearing apart the hazy cover with
their sharp cosmic rays.
Their evening era came and vanished
under the deep water furtively.
The unseen and hungry beggars are walking
along your shore with a loud wailing.
Whatever was so delighted in various symphony,
today it is attacking the evacuated surface
blindly with its wavy vibrations.

হে সমুদ্র, চাহিলাম আপন গহন চিত্তপানে;
কোথায় সঞ্চয় তার, অন্ত তার কোথায় কে জানে।
ওই শোনো সংখ্যাহীন সংজ্ঞাহীন অজানা ক্রন্দন
অমূর্ত আঁধারে ফিরে, অকারণে জাগায় স্পন্দন
বক্ষতলে। এক কালে ছিল রূপ, ছিল বুঝি ভাষা;
বিশ্বগীতিনির্ঝরের তীরে তীরে বুঝি কত বাসা
বেঁধেছিল কোন্‌ জন্মে— দুঃখে সুখে নানা বর্ণে রাঙি
তাহাদের রঙ্গমঞ্চ হঠাৎ পড়িল কবে ভাঙি
অতৃপ্ত আশার ধূলিস্তূপে। আকার হারালো তারা,
আবাস তাদের নাহি। খ্যাতিহারা সেই স্মৃতিহারা
সৃষ্টিছাড়া ব্যর্থ ব্যথা প্রাণের নিভৃত লীলাঘরে
কোণে কোণে ঘোরে শুধু মূর্তি-তরে, আশ্রয়ের তরে।
রাগে অনুরাগে যারা বিচিত্র আছিল কত রূপে,
আজ শূন্য দীর্ঘশ্বাস আঁধারে ফিরিছে চুপে চুপে।

O Ocean, I look deep down in my soul;
No idea where it has the beginning
and where is the termination!
Listen to the innumerable and indefinite
unknown tears wandering at formless night.
They make vibration in our hearts.
They might have forms and words
once upon a time.
On some incarnation they dwelt by the side
of the fountain of a musical world.
They were brightened by various colors
of glee and sorrow.
Long ago their stages suddenly knocked to
the ground of unsatisfied hopes.
They lost their shapes and homes.
Those forgotten and unsuccessful pains
are now infamous and wanders around
the corners of the secret fields of activities
to get forms and shelters.
Those who were so colorful and lovable,
today they are silently wandering with a vacant sigh.
